About My AI Philosophy
This report explores how chatbots, specifically ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude, can support writing, research, and learning. My goal was to evaluate how these tools aid in the tasks I normally do, such as writing papers, researching, and creating plans.
I have included my report on my findings and a statement on my philosophy of using it.

Overview
This report explores how chatbots, specifically ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude, can support writing, research, and learning. My goal was to evaluate how these tools aid in the tasks I normally do, such as writing papers, researching, and creating plans.
I am currently in the process of applying to graduate school at Idaho State University (ISU) in the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program. As part of this process, I am required to take the GRE exam, so I used ChatGPT to learn about the test structure, expectations, and preparation strategies.
Findings
I asked a series of questions to better understand the GRE, including how essays are graded, how long they are, and what types of questions appear on the exam. ChatGPT provided a detailed and well-organized explanation, including examples and strategies.
I searched the same information in Gemini and Claude and received similar answers. The main difference was in how the information was presented. Claude uses paragraph formatting, which I found to be harder to scan. Gemini is concise, but offers less depth. ChatGPT breaks information into sections with bolding and bullet points, making it easier to read and more engaging. It also adds relevant information, such as strategy and context, which I believe supports deeper learning.
Benefits
I have had a paid subscription to ChatGPT for about eight months and I use it almost every day for a wide range of tasks. I use it for brainstorming, editing my papers, filling in gaps in my writing, researching, and learning.
My favorite use of ChatGPT is tutoring. It helps explain concepts, provide structure, and guide my thinking when I am working through assignments or new material. It can also help me understand the purpose behind assignments, which increases my engagement and interest in the work.
ChatGPT’s conversational format and encouraging tone can also increase motivation and help sustain focus when working through multiple assignments.
Overall, I feel like this is becoming a new personal assistant. It provides information quickly, helps organize my ideas, and supports my learning.
Limitations
One limitation of AI chatbots is that they can be used too quickly or without reflection. It is important to remain aware and intentional when using these tools.
Another limitation is that AI responses can sometimes include too much information or not match the format I want. I have learned to adjust my prompts to request shorter answers or specific formats when needed.
There are also times when information may not seem accurate. Because of this, I think it is important to remain slightly skeptical and verify information when necessary.
I believe AI tools are powerful, but they require thoughtful use and awareness to be effective.

Overview
After exploring three AI tools, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude, I have developed a clearer understanding of their abilities, benefits, and limitations. My research showed that AI is a powerful tool for learning, brainstorming, and organization, but it also presents risks that I need to be cautious about, such as over-reliance, accuracy, privacy, and personal communication.
My approach to AI is also grounded in human-centered communication. I want my writing to feel personal, honest, and trustworthy, especially in situations where connection matters.
Based on this, I have developed a personal philosophy for using AI that aligns with my values as a writer, student, and future healthcare professional.
Core Values Guiding My AI Use
My approach to AI is grounded in four key values: integrity, growth, accuracy, and authenticity.
1. Integrity
I want to remain the author of my own work. While AI can support my thinking, it should not replace it. My ideas, voice, and perspective must remain my own. I have seen how easily AI can generate polished content that does not reflect my thinking, so maintaining authorship is essential to preserving my voice and credibility.
2. Growth
My research and personal experience showed that over-reliance on AI can weaken independent thinking. I noticed that when I used AI too quickly, my own thinking became stalled on normal writing tasks. Because of this, I will follow a simple rule: for any task where thinking matters, I will try on my own first and then use AI as a support tool. This allows me to stay engaged in my learning while still benefiting from AI assistance.
3. Accuracy
AI tools can produce incorrect or misleading information. AI is prone to “hallucinations,” meaning it can generate false information with high confidence. So, I plan to take responsibility for verifying facts before using them in my work. This helps ensure that my writing remains accurate and reliable.
4. Authenticity
Writing, especially in personal communication, should reflect my genuine human voice. I once received information that I believed was personal, but later learned that AI had been used to write it. That experience felt misleading and hurtful. Because of this, I believe personal communication should come from a human, not a chatbot.
How I Will Use AI
I will use AI as a partner in my writing and learning process and not as a replacement.
I will use AI for:
– Brainstorming ideas and exploring directions
– Research
– Organizing and structuring writing
– Editing for assistance
– Tutoring support
– Formulating plans
I have found that AI is especially effective as a learning tool. It can explain concepts, provide examples, and increase my engagement with difficult material. When I use it this way, it enhances my understanding rather than replacing it.
How I Will Not Use AI
There are clear boundaries I will maintain to protect my values and maintain trust.
I will not:
– Submit AI-generated work as my own
– Use AI for personal or one-to-one communication
– Rely on AI without first attempting the task independently
– Share sensitive or private information
Information that is shared online cannot be guaranteed to remain private so I am careful about what I share with AI systems. These guidelines ensure that my work remains my own as well as being honest and aligned with my values.
